James Anderson expressed sadness at being released by Lancashire but did not confirm the end of his playing career. The 44-year-old, England's all-time leading wicket-taker, was informed last Monday that he would not receive a new contract. He wrote on Instagram that he wished the players and fans well for the future.

Anderson's career with Lancashire began in 2001, marking the start of a long association with the county. His exit comes as he considers potential next steps in his career after more than two decades with the team. The situation leaves his future in the sport open to further developments.
